4 Nlp Strategies For Self Improvement
Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP has become a most popular set of techniques for self improvement. More people today realize that they should be taking responsibility for their own development and success, by working on their own limiting beliefs and this has prompted an increasing interest in NLP.
There are four basic principles in NLP:
1. Know what it is you are wanting to change or develop
2. Use your sensory acuity to establish a method of feedback to measure your progress
3. Maintain flexibility to be prepared to change your behaviour to reach the desired result
4. Take action and keep resolved to make a permanent and powerful change
Here is the description of these NLP basic principals in detail:
I. NLP basic principle: KNOW WHAT YOU WANT
It is surprisingly common to find how many people want success but can't define what it means to them. It is easier to define what they don't want and as a result attract what they don't want rather than what they do. Accordingly goals should be defined in a positive way rather than the negative. As an example instead of 'I don't want to be overwight' the goal should be 'I want to be slim and healthy'. This is very important and one of the main reasons why people who set goals to improve their position end up failing to achieve it. You should set goals for which you take sole responsibility. You need to recognize that you are the only person responsible for your own success and by allowing others to have an affect on your progress this takes away responsibility from yourself, giving you excuses to fail. You should also frame your goals so they are not at the expense of anyone else.
2. NLP basic principle: SENSORY ACUITY
Maintaining motivation requires you to know how you are progressing. Measuring the extent of your progress is important. Most people do not have an idea of how they are progressing and lose focus, eventually giving up their goal. You need to be able to chart your progress by your five senses.
3. NLP basic principle:FLEXIBILITY
Your course of action to get to the desired result may not go as planned and because of this there is a recognition that a flexible approach is appropriate to make adjustment for a new required direction.
4. NLP basic principle: ACTION
There is no doubting the validity of planning as a means of achieving your goals, but unfotunately many people cannot overcome the inertia to go forward with their plan which defeats the object of making a plan. Outside influences and distractions of leading our daily lives makes us forget the main aim and we end up procrastinating, which leads to us getting frustrated with the lack of progress and we never get started. NLP dictates that the time to take action is NOW.
NLP is a proven method to accomplish your objectives and desires provided you are consistent. If you give this technique a try you will be rewarded with all the happiness and success you desire.
